We stayed three nights and took dinner each night. The rooms are in separate blocks adjacent to the pub. Our room was comfortable. Unfortunately the bedside lights never worked though we reported it.
The bathroom fan was deafening so little chance of a relaxing bath (also reported)
Otherwise, a comfortable stay. The servicing of the rooms was excellent.
This is a large pub with a small bar area which can be crowded. Most of the space is for diners. There seems to be plenty of parking.
We were pleased with most of our meals and drinks. Memorable meals included pies- a particularly tasty chicken haggis pie. Not so good was the burger: two thin and overcooked patties did not justify the £19 though the chips were tasty.
Service in the restaurant is good but on Saturday evening service was dreadfully slow - an hour and a half for our main course with no notice of the likely wait time.
There is an excellent breakfast menu. We enjoyed full English, avocado and sourdough, smoked salmon and scrambled egg. Service at breakfast was excellent.

This is a fabulous, traditional, friendly country pub with excellent rooms. We had a three day break, extended to four days. Great food, totally dog friendly, lovely room, beautifully decorated and everything in its place, including sumptuous dog bed! The pub was warm, welcoming, great beer, roaring fire, and nice clientele and staff. Would I go back? Tomorrow please! Just a small dip in staff service on the Saturday night of our stay due to a large number of "walk-in" customers rather taxed the kitchen!

Very disappointed this visit. Pie had run out and even if it was available, was a bbq pulled pork! Not the sort of pie they used to have and they never ran out

Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon in this nice cosy pub.
Great place for a Winters day, low ceilings, friendly staff.
Food was good, not the best options for starters but the food that we had was enjoyable. Would recommend the smashed burger and the sticky toffee pudding.

Very poor room that needed modernising. Horrible green exit light and strange clunking kept us awake. Food at best average. Staff friendly but that's not really enough.

Think we got a really busy period...it wasn't great ...yet the guys " took it on the chin" and reflected it in the final bill...

The pub itself is very cosy and nicely decorated (looked like a recent refurb). We were warm and comfortable during our meal and served by friendly, helpful staff, even on a busy late-November Saturday evening. We really enjoyed the festive menu which had good flavour and portion sizes, especially the turkey roast which was enough for two!

Not up to the usual high standard that we expect from the group.
Went for Sunday lunch, the starter came out and was lovely but it took almost 2 hours for the Sunday Roast to teach the table.
Not only was it delayed but it came out freezing cold with sub standard Cauliflower cheese.
We asked to speak with the manager and it was apparent that he did not care about our experience.
What a shame for this lovely. Dog friendly pub.
On the plus side we spoke with head office and they were interested in our issues and actually apologised unlike the manager.

A somewhat disappointing stay at The Cricketers.
A late night party with booming music started at 7pm and ended around 2am, taking place in a private house very close to the The Cricketers. We, along, with other guests had a very poor nights sleep. Obviously not the fault of the hotel but we learned this problem has happened before and the local community have obviously not been able to stop it from continuing to happen.
We had a decent meal on Friday night at The Cricketers but the breakfast on Saturday morning was very poor. One of us had what appeared to be small child’s portion of scrambled egg which had been pre-cooked. The porridge was inedible. Service at the dinner and breakfast was provided by monosyllabic youngsters.
Having said all that, the room was really clean and comfortable and the manager who was working the Sunday morning breakfast is excellent

Very good food. Friendly& clean.
Car parks can get full up on weekends.
Dog friendly inside and out.
We had a roast on a Sunday, and although busy, we did not feel rushed.
Will go again. It is quite pricey, but if you enjoy what you have, it is worth it.
Will definitely recommend it to people.

Wat een heerlijke plek om bij te komen van de reis naar Stansted airport. Na een vertraging kwamen we pas om 21 uur aan. Na een hartelijk ontvangst nog heerlijk rustig gegeten. De pub is fantastisch, echt gezellig.
Kamers zijn prima en ontbijt, beste wat ik in een week Engeland heb gegeten.

A lovely, friendly country pub. Food is of a very good standard, and the service is excellent. Be aware that if you're over 6 feet though you will have to mind your head, the ceiling is comediclly low around the bar. Highly recommend the cricketers, though !!

Last minute booking, the customer service is the big deal of this place, since I've done the check in to the waitress at the restaurant, everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I definitely will stay again if driving around and want a place to rest.

Fantastic overnight stay. Couldn’t ask for more. Room was spotless and well appointed. We had a wonderful dinner and ate far too much! Wine range excellent and great ales on tap too.
Staff were all marvellous.
I had the Scottish Tablet dessert. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The obviously home made tablet took me right to being a bairn again and eating my mother’s recipe. “It wid bring a tear tae a glass eye!”
We will definitely be back.

This was a last minute stay for the airport and what a treat! A very friendly characterful place. Our room was lovely with toiletries, Illy coffee and nice decor. They even made us sanwiches to takeaway as we were leaving so early we would have missed the breakfast that was included...and they were excellent! Highly recommend.
